In the Landscape

“Man takes a positive hand in creation whenever he puts a building upon the earth beneath the sun. If he has a birthright at all, it must consist in this: that he, too, is no less a feature of the landscape than the rocks, trees, bears or bees of that nature to which he owes his being.”

Frank Lloyd Wright

Sedona should have been a national park. However since it is not, we strive to achieve what people have done for thousands of years throughout the world in the beautiful landscapes that they were a part of long before the idea of a preserved “park” ever existed: make the buildings seem like a natural part of the landscape. We have not always succeeded but with like-minded clients we continue to pursue that ideal of great buildings, whether by architects or unknown vernacular builders: to create buildings that not only defer to the landscape but can make it more beautiful and make people more conscious of that beauty.
